Axinite & Byssolite

Brown and transparent ferroaxinite on matrix. The crystals are razor-sharp and high lustrous. They are very contrastful accompanied by white byssolite, a variety of the amphibole supergroup. The crystals are also beautiful striated and mostly perfect. Size : 50mm × 26mm × 16mm

Anatase & Quartz

Dodo Mine, Saranpaul, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Russia

Very light greenish greysparkling chloritic schist hosts around 50 lustrous blue but small octahedral crystals of anatase with patches of tiny clear quartz crystals. Although lightly scattered over the main display face there is a significant grouping of anatase crystals adjacent to one of the quartz patches with a second clustering on one of the edges of the specimen. Looks great with a microscope.

Titanite, Calcite & Chlorite

Puiva, Saranpaul, Khanty-Mansi, Tyumen Oblast, Russian Federation

The specimen consists of scattered sharp brown twinned titanite crystals on a schist matrix. You can see some calcite blades among the titanite twins. The brownish chlorite is typical of the Ural localities like the Dodo and Puiva mines. You can learn more about these in the Mineralogical record 30: 451-465. Size :

Gwindel Quartz

Dodo Mine, Saranpaul, Prepolar Ural, Western-Siberian Region, Russia

Here is a big smoky gwindel quartz from a classic but rare locality in Western Siberia. This specimens shows a nice twist to the left when looking from the top. Backside is lightly covered with chlorite, while the frontside is very lustrous. Feel free to check the video below to get a better idea of the specimen. Size: 120mm x 90mm x 74mm
